Manual ChatGPT connection while the public directory listing is not available.
The remote LocalCommander endpoint is live today. Until a public directory install is available, connect it from ChatGPT Developer Mode on the web.
Install LocalCommander
Connect ChatGPT to your Windows PC.
There are two parts: connect LocalCommander in ChatGPT, then install the Windows companion and pair your computer. Once both are connected, you can give ChatGPT real tasks instead of asking for instructions.
The normal install becomes: Plugins / Apps → LocalCommander → Install → Connect.
No endpoint copying. Install the plugin, connect your LocalCommander account and pair your Windows PC.
Important
The current manual custom-MCP setup is configured in ChatGPT on the web. Do the setup from a desktop browser, not from the mobile app.
ChatGPT plan requirement
For manual Developer Mode setup, OpenAI currently documents full MCP write/control actions for Business and Enterprise/Edu. Pro can connect custom MCP in developer mode, but is currently limited to read/fetch actions.

Part 1 · Connect LocalCommander to ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT on the web
Use a desktop browser. Open Settings and enable Developer Mode. Depending on the current ChatGPT UI, it may be under Security and login or Apps → Advanced settings.
Create a custom app / MCP connection
Open Plugins or Apps, choose Add (+) / Create, then create a custom MCP app.
Paste the LocalCommander endpoint

Choose OAuth when prompted, sign in to LocalCommander and approve the requested access.
Finish tool scan / creation
Let ChatGPT scan the available tools, then save or create the app.
Use it in a new chat
Open a new chat, choose LocalCommander from Plugins / Apps / the + menu, then send a test request.

Part 2 · Install the Windows companion
Create or sign in to your LocalCommander account
The same account owns your paired PCs and your ChatGPT authorization.
Download the Windows app
Open the LocalCommander control center and download the private Windows installer.
Generate a pairing code
Click Generate pairing code in the dashboard.
Enter the code on the PC
Run LocalCommander on Windows and paste the one-time pairing code.
Confirm the PC is online
Return to the dashboard. Your machine should show Online with a fresh last-seen time.
First test
Start with something obvious.
List my paired Windows PCs and tell me which one is online.
Then try: “Open Notepad and type: LocalCommander is connected.”

If ChatGPT cannot see the tools, first check: LocalCommander account connected, PC Online in the dashboard, Developer Mode enabled, and the exact /mcp endpoint used.
